Ways to Use Coconut Oil Around the Home

Many people swear by coconut oil for beauty or culinary uses. But it also has many practical uses around the house. At KCI Homes, we love sharing helpful tips and tricks with our community. That is why we want to highlight a few ways you may be able to put coconut oil to use in your home.

For Cast Iron

Cast iron skillets and pans are extremely versatile kitchen tools. If you are a fan of them, you know that they require regular maintenance to keep them performing at their best. If it is time for you to season your pans again, try using coconut oil to get the job done. Just apply a thin layer over the entire surface and pop it in a 300 degree oven for 30 minutes.

For First Aid

Unrefined coconut oil actually has antimicrobial properties, making it an excellent first aid product to have on hand. In addition, it is known to reduce inflammation and increase collagen production. Two things that are essential to the healing process. For minor cuts or wounds, treat first with an antibiotic ointment. Follow that up with a thin layer of coconut oil and then dress the wound with a bandage.

For Wood

Anyone who has a lot of wood elements in their home knows that wood is known to dull or even warp over time. To keep your wood elements in good shape, it is important to condition them regularly. Coconut oil is great for this. To use it, be sure to dust and remove any debris off of the surface first. Then using a thin layer of coconut oil, work it into the wood using circular motions. You can repeat this process anytime you notice the wood in your home looking rather dull.

We could go on and on listing the different ways you can use coconut oil around your house. It’s just that useful! But these are some of our favorite uses for it here at KCI Homes. Coconut oil is cheap, readily available, and a little goes a long way. So make sure you pick up a jar next time you are at the store!
