Your KCI Home will be filled with modern appliances that will make your home life easier and more comfortable, including dishwashers, refrigerators, and ovens. As you make memories in your home, these appliances will need to be cleaned for them to remain in good condition. Which is why today, we want to share a step-by-step guide with you on how to clean one of these appliances, your oven.
Step One: The first step to cleaning your oven is to remove the racks. If you need to clean your oven itself, odds are that the racks need to be cleaned as well. Remove the racks and give them a long soak in hot, soapy water. If the racks are too large to fit in your kitchen sink, you can soak them in your bathtub instead.
Step Two: While the racks are soaking, you can begin removing the bulk of the burnt food from the inside of the oven. Use a spatula or even a putty knife to scrape any baked-on food free. Sweep any dislodged bits onto the ground or vacuum them up.
Step Three: Now is the time to apply your cleaner of choice to the surface of the oven. There are many powerful cleaners on the market that are mixed up and ready to go. Just be careful to ventilate the area well if you choose this route. Turn on your hood fans, open windows, and wear a mask if you need to. For a homemade oven cleaner, mix 2 parts water with 1 part baking soda. Apply the cleaner to the oven walls and floor. Allow it to dwell on the surfaces for a few hours or up to overnight.
Step Four: After the cleaner has set for an appropriate amount of time, you can begin clearing it away. Using a damp sponge or cloth, wipe as much of the paste away as you can. Rinse the sponge or cloth as necessary. If, after you have removed most of the paste, the oven is still not as clean as you wish, you may want to apply another layer of cleaning paste and repeat the process.
Step Five: Next, it's on to the oven door. Using a mixture of equal parts water and white vinegar, spray the door window. Then wipe the door drop with a clean cloth.
If you put off cleaning your oven as much as you possibly can, you are not alone! Most people dread this chore. Which is why doing your best to keep your oven clean in the first place is ideal. Here are some tips on how to do that.
- Check your oven for spills after each use. Once the oven is cooled, remove any spilled food, if there is any.
- Line your oven floor with removable mats for easy cleanups.
- Place larger dishes under stews and pies. That way, if the contents of the first vessel spill over, the larger dish will catch it.
